origin
Alejo Castro Kahle, a descendant of Costa Rica’s coffee pioneers, continues his family’s 200-year legacy through Volcan Azul, the flagship estate on the slopes of Poas Volcano. Dedicated to excellence, he oversees every step of production—from planting to export—to ensure quality and drive continuous improvement.
Passionate about soil health as the foundation of great coffee, Alejo adopts only processing methods that respect the integrity of each variety while showcasing its unique attributes and origin.
Volcan Azul spans 300 hectares, with 60 under coffee cultivation and 200 preserved for conservation. The farm grows over 40 varieties, including award-winning Geisha, Typica, SL28, Caturra, and San Isidro.
