In 1967, the Peterson family acquired Hacienda La Esmeralda, inadvertently changing the specialty coffee world forever. By planting Geisha at high elevations on their Jaramillo farm and separating harvests by microclimate, they revealed the variety's extraordinary potential. Their Jaramillo Geisha set a landmark record at the 2004 Best of Panama auction, cementing Panama as the global epicenter for luxury coffee.
Today, the Peterson family continues to define excellence. At the 2025 Best of Panama, Hacienda La Esmeralda swept all three competition categories, setting world-record scores of 98 points in both Geisha Washed and Geisha Natural, alongside 92.88 points in Varietals.
